Praying for Nigeria

“Restore us, O Lord God of hosts; let your face shine, that we may be saved!”— Psalm 80:19 ESV

He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.”— Micah 6:8 NIV

Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.”— 1 John 4:1 ESV

1. The cumulative effects of ancient tribal rivalries, Muslim conquests, British colonial policy, the bitter Biafra war of 1967–70 and heightened religious tensions have left deep scars. Pray for healing and reconciliation, and for leadership that will unite rather than divide.

2. The introduction of shari’a law in northern Muslim states is a direct challenge to the federal government. It is an open door to human rights abuses and the infiltration of extremists. Pray for these injustices to be exposed and for true moral order to be found under Christ’s authority.

3. The Church in Nigeria has grown rapidly, but many new believers lack discipleship. False teaching and syncretism with tribal practices are common. Pray for humility, simplicity and holiness in the Nigerian Church, and for balanced biblical teaching on spiritual warfare, healing, and outreach.

4. Nigeria has one of the world’s highest numbers of shortwave radio listeners, with many also accessing FM broadcasts. With low literacy and strong oral traditions, radio is vital for evangelism and discipleship. Pray for unreasonable restrictions to be lifted and for the gospel to spread through these platforms.
