Praying for France

Then saith He unto his disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few; Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth labourers into his harvest." Matthew 9:37–38 (KJV).

"Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I; send me." Isaiah 6:8 (KJV)

"Declare his glory among the heathen, his wonders among all people." Psalm 96:3 (KJV)

Decline in Faith and Spiritual Hunger: France has witnessed a sharp decline in religious faith since the 18th century, with church attendance dropping below 8% and over 30% identifying as non-religious. Despite this decline, a deep spiritual hunger is growing among the French, brought on by postmodern relativism, existential emptiness, and the privatization of spirituality. Evangelicals, though a small group, are passionate and growing, planting new congregations regularly especially Pentecostals and charismatics. However, most French people have never encountered the true gospel message.

Unreached Communities and Minority Challenges: The need for evangelical outreach remains critical. Nearly 50 million people in France have no connection to a Christian church. Rural areas, urban centers, and entire regions like the Loire Valley and Corsica remain largely unreached. Ethnic and religious minorities, such as Jews, North Africans, Berbers, and Indo-Chinese communities, often remain isolated and unreached by the gospel. Various mission agencies work with minimal staff and resources to reach these communities with the love of Christ.

Youth, Students, and the Bible: Youth in France face a crisis of identity, high unemployment, and suicide rates. Many are open to the gospel due to the emptiness they see in secularism. Ministries focused on children and youth (like YFC, YWAM, Cru, and Teen Challenge) are making inroads, and youth events are igniting spiritual passion. Student ministries are beginning to thrive, especially among international students. Although most French people have never held a Bible, Bible sales are rising due to growing spiritual interest, with accessible and affordable copies becoming more widely available.

1) Praying for revival and Spiritual awakening in France

Ask God to stir the hearts of the French people and overcome the apathy, hostility, and ignorance toward the Gospel of Jesus Christ. “Wilt thou not revive us again: that thy people may rejoice in thee?” Psalm 85:6 (KJV)

2) Praying for the strengthening of evangelical Churches and Ministries

Pray for unity, growth, and boldness among evangelical believers to reach out to their communities with compassion, love and truth. Pray that the hunger for the Gospel of Christ will overcome the suspicion toward religion. Pray that Christians would be prepared to patiently and relationally share Jesus Christ with those who seek Him. “And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved.” Acts 2:47b (KJV)

3) Praying for the salvation of unreached peoples and minorities in France

Lift up the Jews, Muslims, Berbers, and Asians living in France, that they may encounter Christ through faithful witness and gospel-centered outreach.

“Also other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring… and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd.” John 10:16 (KJV)

4) Praying for the French youth and students

Pray that young people will find identity, purpose, and belongingness in Christ and be discipled into mature believers. Pray for youth networks and movements that are emerging to encourage and connect French Christian youth such as Mission Radicale, ON AIR, Alive-3 and Teen Street for this fire to spread and grow and to have a national impact among young people, saved and unsaved

“Remember now thy Creator in the days of thy youth…” Ecclesiastes 12:1a (KJV)

5) Pray for Bible access and hunger for God’s Word

Ask that the Word of God will continue to spread across France, transforming lives and leading many to salvation through Jesus Christ. (for there is no other name given to World through which mankind should be saved) “So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void…” Isaiah 55:11 (KJV)
