Our call to make disciples demands that we become or exercise leadership. God is not looking for one time converts; he expects us to help other people follow Christ as a lifestyle.

 

WORD DEFINITIONS:

Disciple: A disciple is an active learner, pupil, and devoted follower. 

Ethnos/Nations: an ethnic group, a nation, or a people who share a common culture, language, and history. 

Leadership: is the ability to guide, influence, and inspire people to work together toward a common goal or vision. 

Vision: is the picture of a preferred future. 

 

BACKGROUND ABOUT MOSES

He is one of the great author of the Bible

He was adopted by Pharaoh's daughter

He was 40 Years when he attempted to rescue his brothers

He was rejected by his brothers the first time 

He was very educated and powerful 

He was a righteous Man of God, he let go of earthly pleasures 

He freed to a distance of around 400 Km to Midian where he stayed for another 40 years

The Israelites were in bondage 

 

FIVE ASPECTS OF BECOMING A LEADER WITH A DIFFERENCE 

1. Crisis is the opportunity for manifestation of Leadership (Exodus 3Vs7)

- Moses today is remembered because there was a crisis and he came to solve it

- Every leader we remember in the bible was solving a particular Crisis 

- David was solving a Goliath problem

- Joshua a Jericho problem 

- Jesus a sin Problem 

- We have been called to be the light of the world, there is a solution that is only found in us

- The world is waiting for manifestation of children of God (Romans 8:18-22)

- In the last days there will be gross darkness (Isaiah 60:1-3)

- You were born as a solution and a reward to someone 

 

2. Great Leadership is not a decision its rather a discovery (Hebrews 11 Vs 23-27)

- Moses discovered something bigger than the riches of Egypt.

- “When Moses was forty Years it came into his heart to visit his brothers, the children of Israel”….(Acts 7Vs 23) 

- We were born with a purpose, our assignment is to discover it

- Dr. Mike Murdock “What you hate, you were meant to correct, What greaves you, you were meant to heal….”

- What you love is a clue to the gifts, skills and wisdom you posses……

- Moses hated oppression to the point that when he saw Jethro’s daughters being oppressed, he stood up for them and defended them against the Shepherd’s 

- Exodus 2 Vs 16 -17

- God gives us the purpose, it is for us to discover it

 

3. Your Assignment requires people (Exodus 3 Vs 16)

- At first Moses thought he would do it alone, nobody was with him, they were actually against him 

- The second time God gave Moses a people strategy, to go through the elders and to speak through Aaron (Exodus 3 Vs 16)

- It’s often said “If you want to go fast go alone but if you want to go far go with people 

- Even Jesus had to come up with a list of disciples before starting his ministry

- David had the mighty men of David, who formed the great pillars of his leadership 

- Some people that will come your way, will be more skilled than you, like Aaron was more eloquent than Moses 

- Sometimes God will bring people who are more skilled than you, in some areas, be comfortable to work with smart people

- Great leaders were mostly surrounded by great people 

 

4. There will always be challenges to great leadership 

- The fact that you are called does not mean you will not face challenges 

- Moses became a fugitive for trying to pursue God’s calling 

- Challenges to becoming a leader who makes a difference is not a sign that your calling is wrong 

- David became a fugitive in his own country after being anointed by Samuel and defeating Goliath 

- Moses became a state enemy because of his calling and on top of that he was also rejected by the people that he wanted to help

- He expected his countrymen to understand that God was granting them freedom through him [assuming that they would accept him], but they did not understand (Acts 7:25) 

- The beauty of the calling and making the difference is in facing those challenges and finding solutions 

- Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivers him out of them all. Psalm 34:19

- Challenges are not a sign that you are on a wrong path, its just part of the journey 

 

 

5. Great leadership is when you find your identity with God (Exodus 3 Vs 11)

- Moses was very educated and very powerful but this did not make a difference 

- So Moses was educated in all the wisdom and culture of the Egyptians, and he was a man of power in words and deeds. (Acts 7:22) 

- Moses was Egyptian by how he looked for being raised in the palace and yet his inner being, in his heart, he knew he was a Jew but rejected by his own countrymen. 

- After 40 years the man was defeated and hopeless, he definitely thought he was forgotten 

- The devil always plays with our identity because if he succeeds, he knows that he can defeat our God given assignments

- Gideon asked “who am I”

- Adam was defeated with Identity 

- Nathaniel doubted that a messiah cannot come from Nazareth 

- Even Jesus, after the powerful testimony during his baptism, the first test was on his Identity 

- Jesus’s first challenge in the ministry was on his identity, to the point that they wanted to throw him off the cliff

- God didn’t try to explain their Identity, He just assured them all (Gideon and Moses) that He was with them

- Whatever tool you think you have to make a difference is not enough without God

 

Conclusion 

We have been called to make a difference, we need to rise up and make a difference. 

 

Altar Call:

1. Lets pray that God will convict us to make a difference, that we will not be carried away with the pleasures of this world 

2. Let’s pray that those callings that we haven’t been pursing will be revived
