Be Still and Get High

RECURRENT THOUGHT

‘Be Still” is a spiritual position that allows the uplifting power of God to flow through you, elevating your soul above every limitation, challenge or mountain in life.

INTRODUCTION

Psalms 46 is one of the most powerful chapters in the bible that speaks of the manifest greatness of God in graphic terms. It speaks of God as:

  • i. A refuge and strength for human beings
  • ii. An ever-present help
  • iii. A Vanquisher/subjugator/conqueror of the fear in men
  • iv. A stabilizer of both men and the universe amidst violent raging forces.
  • v. An over flowing river of joy and purity!
  • A fierce force that melts, decimate, annihilate, disarms, consumes anything that stand in its way.
  • A Source of bliss and peace!

It is amazing that that man is asked to do in face of the manifest power of God is to Be Still! It is the posture of Being Still :

  • That allows you to benefit from the cover of God.
  • Allows you to draw from the strength of God
  • Guarantees the ever-presence of help from God
  • iWhere all fear melts away and there is total liberations
  • Where the river of God flows through bring inexplicable joy and peace

The Hebrew word used in the referenced scripture Be Still means to ‘relax’ to ‘let go’ or ‘stop’.

We are so used to being told to do something in order to unlock the intervention of God so much so that we forget that sometimes all God wants us to do is to Be Still. The greatest miracles recorded in the bible happened when people took a position to Be Still. This line in the song of the sons of Kora (Psalms 46 v 10) was influenced by the miracle in Exodus 14: 13-14!

We will look at this topic in the context of dealing with internal battles. The biggest and most damaging battles of life take place inside. The deepest pains are not outside but inside. The most violent storms are raging inside people not outside. People are bellowing in agony inside. Many people are suffering from what the world has termed sicknesses of soul: feeling of demoralization, besieged, insecurity, stranded, helpless, in-adequate, lonely e.t.c These challenges are being experienced by both believers and non-believers.

These internal raging battles push people to start chasing fake highs like drugs, sex, occulting rituals!

I am here to announce to you today that you can get back, your sanity, peace, joy, confidence, security, strength and centeredness by learning to Be Still in God!

To Be Still is to Resist the Tendency to Touch Pop-Up Solutions (Exodus 14 v 11 -14)

  • Every human being alive is present in two worlds, the physical world which comprises everything that goes on in the world around us and the spiritual world which goes on inside. The spiritual world is popularly referred to as the heart (not the physical organ).
  • There are three players in the human heart: the spirit, the personal mind and emotions.
  • The real you and me is spirit. He is the most elevated part of our inner being. He is the one that came from God. He is the one that was created in the image of God. He is the one that sees everything that happens inside and outside a person. He sees the personal mind when it is processing thoughts. He sees emotions when they are developing.  (Genesis 1 v 27; 2 v 7)
  • The mind is like a computer. It has the intellectual part which process impersonal/objective data e.g professional information. But there is also the part of the mind called the personal mind. It is the part of the mind that deals with imaginations about you as a person. This is the part that generates fears and desires. This is the part of the that the bible says must be cast down in 2nd Corinthians 10 v 5.
  • The personal mind works like Pop-Up windows. A pop-up window is a small window that suddenly appears on the user’s screen while they are browsing. It quite literally popsup to promote special offers. They are for online marketing. They are designed to be captivating and encourage the browser to take action.
  • The personal mind is the marketing device for the devil in our minds. It is what the devil uses to pop up messages to tempt man.
  • When faced with situations in life the personal mind throws suggestions for actions to you.  It goes into the past to pick-up negative experiences from the past and predict a negative outcome in future and suggest to you to take action to run away from this negative experience.
  • Faced with the red sea in front, the Egyptians at the back, and mountains on both sides the personal minds of the children Israel raced and they quickly imagined themselves dead.
  • The personal mind always focuses on the past and future. The past and future are both products of imaginations. They are not real! Only the present is real. The imaginations then unleash negative emotions.
  • Sicknesses are all rooted in the personal mind. They are about imaginations of the past and the future. Focusing on them takes away our focus from the Spirit.
  • All internal restlessness is a sign that the personal mind has dislodged the spirit - you have touched pop-ups and the browser has moved to another page
  • So the command to “Be Still” is a command to ignore suggestions for action from popups!
  • To be still is to allow your spirit to take its position and sit back in God!
  • Our spirit is meant to lean on God, who is also Spirit!
  • Like all pop-ups the suggestions for actions from the personal mind are not inspired by God, they are informed by experiences, algorithms (patterns) (fear and desires). It is not God speaking it is your personal mind!

Be Still means Don’t interfere with God’s Process

  • In saying Be Still, God is essentially saying I got this, don’t interfere.
  • Be Still is to Let go and Let God!
  • God is saying I have unleashed a river from my throne that will sweep away the negative emotions that is raging inside you and the bad memories.  Psalms 46 v 4.  Rev. 22 v1
  • He has promised that when the enemy rises as a flood, he will raise a standard. Isiah 59 v 19
  • God is saying it is my business to stop the storm that is raging in your heart. The storms of condemnation and guilt! Just Be Still!
  • When memories of your past pops up, don’t touch it, Be Still!
  • When memories of that past failure pops -up, Be still! Don’t touch it.
  • When memories of that past loss pop-up, Be still! Don’t touch it!
  • When thoughts of fear of the future pops up, Be Still! Don’t touch it!
  • When thoughts of sin or temptation pops-up, Be still, Don’t touch it!
  • When strong sexual emotions roar in you, Be Still, Don’t touch it !
  • You know very well that touching it has not helped before it has only made it worse. Do a new thing, deploy a new strategy BE STILL and see the salvation of the Lord!
  • There is no need for you to bind it or suppress, Don’t Interfere with what God is already doing it ! Just be quite. Be still.
  • God is already rolling away that addiction, just be Still!
  • In Mathew 14 v 30, Peter was walking on water until he started looking at the wind. When he saw the wind, his mind reminded that he had to do something to save himself. He forgot that he was already walking on water, all he needed was to Be still and keep moving, God’s hands would have continued to carry him!
  • Just keeping working! Just keep Studying, HE is working behind the scenes!
  • We have taught each other planning for tomorrow to the extent that we have given ourselves the mental burden to engineer outcomes. Sometimes we need to remind each other that there is a God of tomorrow! Don’t worry about tomorrow, means Be Still!  you don’t need to know how he will do. Mathew 6 v 25-32  “Take no thought”
  • It is enough that only God knows about it because he is the one that has to take care of it, any way.
  • Sometimes we need to wake-up in the morning and say I don’t know what will happen today and I don’t need to know, but I know that whatever happens I will be fine because he is in-charge!
  • The climax of prayer is Let your will be done!
  • Be Still inside but keep working outside!

ALTAR TIME

  • I surrender to God’s will
  • I will Be Still
  • I will not interfere!
