Importance of Soul Winning
The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life, and whoever captures (wins) souls is wise.
Recurrent Thought
One major commitment for all Kingdom workers is to bring others to the saving knowledge of God.
Winning Souls, which is also called by various names such as Evangelism or Witnessing, is the heartbeat of God. Throughout the bible, we see God seeking human beings. Notice in the Garden of Eden when Adam and Eve sinned God called them, “Where are you?” (Gen. 3:9). We also see in the Gospels when God sends His Son who came “seek and to save that which was lost” (Luke 19:10). Winning souls is not an option; it is the mission of every believer. Yet many Christians neglect this responsibility, forgetting that eternal destinies are at stake.
In this message, we want to learn why we must win souls, not only as a duty, but as a joyful privilege and a divine command. We must win souls because, apart from worship Him, it is the greatest work entrusted to us by God, and it has eternal consequences for the lost, for us, and for the glory of Christ.
Why should we win souls? Why is it important?
- Because of the Cost of His Sacrifice (Gal 1:3-4)
- Gal 1:3 Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ,
- Gal 1:4 who gave himself for our sins to deliver us from the present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father,
- God Sacrificed huge costs. He gave himself
- He wants human beings to be saved
- He shall only be satisfied (Isa. 53:11) with souls’ won
- Isa 53:11 Out of the anguish of his soul he shall see and be satisfied; by his knowledge shall the righteous one, my servant, make many to be accounted righteous, and he shall bear their iniquities.
- We pursue to win Souls because we don’t want Calvary experience to be in vain
- The Condition of the Lost (Rom. 3:23; 6:23; Eph. 2:1)
Without Christ, human beings are lost, dead in sins, and facing eternal condemnation.
What do we mean by human beings being lost without Christ?- The lost are spiritually dead (“Dead in trespasses and sins” – Eph. 2:1).
- Sin separates man from God, leaving him hopeless and desperately needs another to save them.
- A drowning man cannot save himself.
- By the way the gospel is not good advice—it is life to the dead.
- The lost are under condemnation (“For the wages of sin is death” Rom. 6:23).
- The penalty is eternal separation in hell. This is the Judgment against those lost it is Justice pronounced: without pardon, the guilty must pay.
- Every unsaved neighbor, friend, and family member is in danger now.
- The lost are without direction (“All we like sheep have gone astray” – Isa. 53:6).
- Sheep without a shepherd are vulnerable and lost
- The church is God’s rescue team. Question are will going to act or stay silent?
- The Value of the Human Soul
- The Pure sacrifice of the Lord entails the value of what he died for
- Every human being is precious in the sight of God.
- Every human soul is made in the image of God. Valuable (Gen. 1:26-28; 2:7)
- Men carry the deposit of God. Those who die without Christ are irreplaceable loss
- It is a Command of Christ (Matthew 28:19–20; Mark 16:15)
Soul winning is not optional it is obedience to the Great Commission.- It is a universal command (“Go you therefore, and teach all nations” – Matt. 28:19).
- The call is for all disciples, not only pastors or missionaries.
- Like a soldier under orders, delay is disobedience.
- It is the Lords Last Command
- Ask yourself—am I actively obeying my Lord’s last command?
- It is an urgent command (“Preach the gospel to every creature” – Mark 16:15).
- This command for every creature, which means no one is excluded.
- Imagine a house on fire—would you wait or rush to rescue? Share Christ with urgency, because time is short.
- It is a wise command (“He who wins souls is wise” – Prov. 11:30).
- True wisdom is measured by eternity, not worldly success.
- Wisdom is not how much you know, but how many you lead to Christ.
- The Crown that awaits the Faithful (1 Thess. 2:19–20; Dan. 12:3)
Winning souls brings eternal reward and joy in the presence of God.- The crown of rejoicing (“You are our glory and joy” 1 Thess. 2:20).
- Paul calls the Thessalonians his glory and Joy
- Every soul saved becomes eternal treasure. I am sure that the Missionaries who meet converts in heaven rejoice together. Your greatest joy will be seeing those you led to Christ in eternity.
- The brightness of eternal glory
- Dan 12:3 And those who are wise shall shine like the brightness of the sky above; and those who turn many to righteousness, like the stars forever and ever.
- Stars are countless and radiant; so will be the reward of faithful soul winners.
- Application: Invest in what shines forever—souls, not material wealth.
- We get the approval of Christ
- Well done, thou good and faithful servant” – Matt. 25:21).
- One day we will stand before Him. What will He say about our soul-winning efforts?
Gospel Appeal
- Friend, perhaps you are not yet saved. You cannot win others until Christ has won your own soul. Jesus died for you, rose again, and offers forgiveness today. “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you shall be saved” (Acts 16:31).
Conclusion
Why win souls? Because Christ commanded it, the lost desperately need it, and heaven itself rejoices when a sinner repents (Luke 15:7). Soul winning is the greatest work, the wisest investment, and the surest path to eternal joy.
Final Application: Let us rise from complacency and commit ourselves anew to the task of evangelism. Someone’s eternity may depend on your obedience today.
- Brevity of Life (ECC 12:7; James 4:14)
