Practicing Obedience

2Co 3:18  All of us, then, reflect the glory of the Lord with uncovered faces; and that same glory, coming from the Lord, who is the Spirit, transforms us into his likeness in an ever greater degree of glory (GNB)

2Co 3:18  And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit (ESV).

Recurrent Thought

Practicing Obedience leads to transformation and eventually into Christlikeness.

When we lead people to the Lord and they become converted to the Faith of Jesus Christ, they must be trained on how to be faithful to His Word (Math. 28: 19).

Practicing Obedience is one of the cornerstone for Believers’ Transformation. Therefore, one clear goals of a Disciple Maker is to train disciples in how to practice obedience.

Practicing Obedience leads to transformation and eventually into Christlikeness. Additionally, an increasingly transforming believer grows into a mature Christ-devoted follower (Ephesians 4:11-16)

There are many elements in the believer’s life that are essential but in themselves do not cause spiritual maturity nor are they a signal of it. These include

  • Length of being in Christ
  • Spiritual Knowledge or information
  • Attendance to spiritual activities
  • Use of giftings
  • Service to Kingdom Tasks

Three Components in the Transformation Process

1.)The Goal: Christ like Transformation (2 Corinthians 3:18)

Transformation is the process of becoming like Christ. Being Born Again is an act of a moment; transformation is a process of a lifetime. Through the process of transformation, a new and mature person emerges. In essence Transformation is a series of Changes that happen in a believer in their life time. Transformation is a product, a result that happen in a process.

God is the author, and superintendent of transformation.  No one transforms themselves; but for this to work, one has to yield to the process of being transformed. There are ways that we can behold transformation, including

  • Transformation of One’s Character
  • Spiritual Maturity is the signified by the transformation of Character. John and James are examples. They were called “sons of thunder because of their behavior but John changed
  • Transformation from healed Relationships
  • Zacchaeus who encountered Jesus and relationships were touched
  • Transformation revealed in Unity of the body of Christ(Ephesians 4)
  • Transformation by Service of the Saints (Ephesian 4
  • Transformation through Discernment of truth and contexts of life (Eph. 4)

2.)Essential Input: God’s Revelation

  • God unveiling himself to humanity to the level he desires. He provided this revelation in two forms. Special Revelation recorded in Scriptures; General Revelation as revealed in nature.
  • God giving us the ability to discern or to perceive things with full awareness of their implication. It is the call for our response. When God reveals there is a persuasion that you respond.
  • Believers have to grow Spiritual Perception to catch the revelation by the Spirit.
  • The Key is how to respond to the revelation

3.) The Engine: Obedience

  • Is the key that connects between Revelation and Transformation. What God reveals is for us to obey.  Obedience is accepting Gods directive and employing the demands of the Commands
  • Our response to Gods revelation is obedience and that is what brings Transformation
  • Obedience is the engine of transformation. (Read the St John Text below)
  • One level of obedience opens new levels of Revelation

Pro 4:18  But the path of the righteous is like the light of dawn, which shines brighter and brighter until full day.”

Results of our Obedience

  • God determines the Results of obedience
  • God works in us to do His good will, in however He determines.
  • Practicing Obedience is the key to transformation and the foundation for Christlikeness
