Rewriting the script
Hebrews 4:12
For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.
The word of God
It is transformative
Alive and active
It is not static, it is consistently transforming lives. It is a powerful force that actively works in the hearts of believers
Sharper than a two edged sword
it is sharpened on both sides making the striking fasterHas a piercing effect, it is capable of reaching to them most hidden, inner parts of the of a person
Judge of thoughts and intentions-
It reveals our hidden motives, exposes us before God
The exposure the word does is not for punishment but foe healing and for our transformation.
The goal is to have Christ be formed in us
2 Corinthians AMP
And we all with unveiled faces, continually seeing in a mirror the glory of God are progressively being transformed into the image from one degree of glory to even more glory. (some have still been on the same degree).
The word exposes us to our true condition,
It acts as a diagnostic tool
It is not a self-help book, it’s a self-replacement book
Why does it seem like the word is not transforming us? Where is the disconnect? Where are we getting it wrong?
Hebrews 4:2
For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it".
- Not mixing the word with faith (Mark 7:13)
- Making the word of God of no effect through your tradition which you have handed down. And many such things you do.”
- The traditions we have believed or put up for ourselves. These traditions are things embedded in us and make us reason, behave or respond the way we do. This is our script
The Script
Your life follows a script or pattern or internal algorithm that you have been creating over time, the script is compiled by our experiences, things we have believed about ourselves based on what we thinks about ourselves or what people have said about us
The script dictates how we interact with the world as well as God.
A distorted script views God and his word from a distorted lens and these act as barriers to true transformation.
Reflect on some of the scripts you have believed. What are some things that stop you from seeking God more? What makes youto be resistance to change or to the things of God
Types of People and their Scripting
- The autopilot Believer /The Unconscious scripting
- The ‘Aura’ Protectors/selective scripting
- The defiant authentic/ stubborn scripting
- The surrendered/ The Rewritten script
If you don't let the Word of God edit that script, you will always be "acting out" your old nature.
If your script is corrupt you will do christianity from a corrupt place
You can not live a script beyond what you have believed
It all begins from you guarding what you let in to edit your script because as the man thinks so is he.
This is the process of mind renewal
The call to action
Identify which scripts you have believed about your relationship with God that could be hindering your transformation in Christ
Take time to spend in the word to learn what the word script says about how you ought to walk this walk of faith.
Make the changes as God is leading you to, yield to the conviction
Prayer
- Pray that you will desire the word that brings transformation
- Surrender the script that is not consistent with the word script, and pray that God will open your eyes to see the scripts that need rewriting
- Pray you will not suppress the leading and the convictions even when the action to be taken is tough
