1 Corinthians 9:24-26 24Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one receives the prize? So run that you may obtain it. 25 Every athlete exercises self-control in all things. They do it to receive a perishable wreath, but we an imperishable. 26 So I do not run aimlessly; I do not box as one beating the air. 27 But I discipline my body and keep it under control, lest after preaching to others I myself should be disqualified.
2 Timothy 2:5 An athlete is not crowned unless he competes according to the rules.
- Our focus must be on what matters most–the imperishable prize
- Our ultimate focus should be on the imperishable wreath – there is no second place, we either win or lose.
- We must be ready to pay the price of endurance
- Achieving our dreams is costly, we must be ready to pay the price’.
- We must run by the rules
- We must understand and run by the rules of the game, develop interest in knowing how to compete according to your assignment.
- Self-discipline is indispensable
- The best of us comes when we are self-disciplined

As we run our race, we must allow the Holy Spirit to guide us into areas where we need self-discipline.
