Running to Win The Prize

Key thought: Self-discipline is a key element in fulfilling our dreams, but most importantly it is a key to attaining the imperishable crown form our Master

Key verses

1 Corinthians 9:24-26 24Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one receives the prize? So run that you may obtain it. 25 Every athlete exercises self-control in all things. They do it to receive a perishable wreath, but we an imperishable. 26 So I do not run aimlessly; I do not box as one beating the air. 27 But I discipline my body and keep it under control, lest after preaching to others I myself should be disqualified.

2 Timothy 2:5 An athlete is not crowned unless he competes according to the rules.

  1. Our focus must be on what matters most–the imperishable prize
    • Our ultimate focus should be on the imperishable wreath – there is no second place, we either win or lose.
  2. We must be ready to pay the price of endurance
    • Achieving our dreams is costly, we must be ready to pay the price’.
  3. We must run by the rules
    • We must understand and run by the rules of the game, develop interest in knowing how to compete according to your assignment.
  4. Self-discipline is indispensable
    • The best of us comes when we are self-disciplined

Conclusion

As we run our race, we must allow the Holy Spirit to guide us into areas where we need self-discipline.
