The Advantage of the Spirit

and what you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses

entrust to faithful men, who will be able to teach others also.

Recurrent Thought

Occasionally, as the People of the Spirit, we receive His Grace and we perform with His Power (Advantage)

Every human endeavour, project, or a task with a predetermined goal needs skills from workers to translate goals into realities. Admittedly, Skills are not the only needed inputs towards fulling a goal. There are many other issues including such human competences like Knowledge of the task at hand; the wisdom necessary to make decisions, choices and judgment when executing the task. Character of a person, which is the inner human state, predisposing one to react to outside activities with a specific orientation.

In todays, Presentation we want to see how certain skills are essential in disciple making.

A skill is a learned ability to carry out a task with predetermined results. Some have referred to Skills as the practical engines that transform abstract goals into reality. Goals define our destination, our visionary targets, but skills are the vehicle that gets us there. Without the right abilities, a goal remains a wish. Skills are the bridge between our current state and our preferred future, our goals. We develop Skills through deliberate practice, training, and experience. When we look at the scriptures to Timothy we observe some of the skills identified as essential for disciple making

Talents are differentiated from Skills for they are deemed as abilities that are innate and do not require much training over a long time. Spiritual gifts on the other hand are abilities that become evident when one undergoes a spiritual encounter. Some of these will become evident when we have a spiritual impartation

What is Impartation?

Impartation is a spiritual exercise when a deposit is passed on or activated in another person to grant them to perform with an added dimension of grace beyond their natural efforts. Impartation is the spiritual transfer of gifts, anointing, or wisdom from one person to another, typically through the Holy Spirit. This is an advantage of the Spirit

In Numbers 11:16-17 After being overwhelmed by a grumbling community, Moses brings the case to God. The Lord informs him to collect 70 elders to come the Tabernacle and God will perform a miracle of Transfer of the Grace of Leadership. He was to take the Spirit on Moses and spread it to all. The 70 will have a supernatural “gifts of helps” to alleviate Moses of the Burden. What really happened?

In Miraculous Circumstances Spiritual Gifts (Graces) are passed on to another by Transference (Impartation)

Purpose of Impartation

  1. Impartation is to transfer spiritual capabilities and possibilities
  2. Impartation is activation of something that is within you but is in the state of dormancy
  3. Impartation is the multiplication, duplication, and replication of the spiritual DNA, power, and status from a higher vessel to a related connected person

Prerequisite for Impartation

  1. Regular Hunger and Desire:
    • Impartation requires craving the spiritual gifts and graces that another person carries (1 Cor. 12:31, 2 Kings 2:9). Elisha showed a hunger to receive an Impartation from his Father in the Spirit
  2. Honor and Recognition
    • You cannot receive from an anointing you do not honor. The scriptures teach that “the less is blessed by the better” (Hebrews 7:7) and that welcoming a prophet or righteous person ensures you receive their reward (Matthew 10:41).
  3. Believe in the power of blessing
    • The people of the Old Testament believed so much in the power of a blessing that Jacob lied and cheated to get one. They were convinced it would positively affect their lives and the lives of their descendants for generations. We live in a better covenant with better promises (Hebrews 8:6). Impartation is a part of these better promises.

Means of Impartation

  1. Spoken Word:The Spoken word is a means of impartation. Most time People wait to prayed over for Impartation. However, spiritual deposits are transferred even as the word is being declared. As people hear the Word of God grace, power, virtue, is released Ezekiel 2:2; Luke 5:17; 6:17-19
  2. Fervent prayer and fellowship (Romans 1:12).
  3. Covenant Relationships and Service
    • Impartation often flows through discipleship and mentorship ties. Impartation flows within spiritual relationships where honor, faith, and a shared vision are present Just as Elisha served Elijah, or Joshua ministered to Moses, those who serve are positioned to catch what their mentors carry.  Jesus had relationships with Apostles that were essential for Impartation and release. Close, ongoing relationships where the mentee observes and learns from the leader’s character and decision-making.
  4. Specific Prophecy The impartation was accompanied or initiated by prophetic utterances These divine revelations pinpointed God's calling on Timothy’s life and outlined the scope of his ministry. Spiritual gifts are frequently confirmed and stirred up through prophetic words spoken over an individual (1 Timothy 1:18; 4:14).
  5. The Laying on of Hands: This physical act was more than a symbolic gesture; it served as the channel through which spiritual power and official recognition of his leadership were transferred. Laying of hands serves as an outward sign of an inward spiritual transfer (Acts 8:17-18 1 Timothy 4:14; 2 Timothy 1:6). The Doctrine of Laying of Hands is one we have stopped emphasizing as people of the Spirit.
  6. Intentional Handover: Preparing successors (such as Moses to Joshua, or Paul to Timothy) to ensure the continuity and expansion of the areas of responsibility

Recipient's Responsibility

Impartation is not passive; it requires active stewardship and maintenance by the receiver.

  1. Stirring the Gift: In 2 Timothy 1:6, Paul commands Timothy to "fan into flame" (or "stir up") the gift of God. Impartation provides the spark, but Timothy is responsible for fueling and maintaining the spiritual fire through faithful service and prayer
  2. Guarding the Deposit: Timothy was instructed to guard the spiritual treasure entrusted to him (2 Timothy 1:14) and maintain doctrinal purity.

Altar Time

Prayer Point 1: Grace to Stir Up and Maximize the Gift Received

Prayer Point 2: Grace to Guard the Spiritual Deposit

Prayer Point 3: Faithfulness to Steward Impartation for Kingdom Impact
