Psalm 78:6
That the generation to come might know, even the children yet to be born,
That they may arise and tell them to their children,
God, as a loving father He cares for his prime creation Man. Human beings are the only creation, as far as we know, created out of His Image and Likeness. They are the only creation who were breathed out of Himself. They have the essence which is a God-kind of essence. A human being is a spirit, has a soul, and lives in a body. God loves each and every person individually and he desires to have fellowship with any living person on the earth.
In order to do this, God has revealed himself through different platforms just to reach a person. He has revealed Himself through Israel, and later on to the Church, which is essentially to all Nations. Jesus, is God revealing Himself to all humanity. To Israel, His revelation was through Himself, through types that revealed His nature and love. A lot of these types spoke of Jesus who was to come as the antype Yet in these revelations of himself through these avenues it is about the individual person. He is willing to wait as long as it takes that individuals come to know Him (2 Peter 3:8-9)
2Pe 3:8 But do not overlook this one fact, beloved, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.
2Pe 3:9 The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance.
God also reveals himself through Generations. Generations are community categories essential to the organization of human life. Communities and nations sustain development only when its people think and act in generational terms. A Generation refers to a set of people living in a particular period of time. A generation is a particular set of people born and living at about the same time. This is a collective term that describes a group of people born and living within a set period of time.

Pew Research Center (2015)
A generation as an average period of time is generally considered to be about thirty years, during which children are born, grow up, become adults, and begin to have children of their own. A generation typically refers to groups of people born and living about the same time, regarded collectively, such as the Millennial Generation, currently the youngest adult generation. The word Generation refers to a set of people living in a particular period of time. A generation is a collective term that describes a particular set of people born and living at about the same time.
Generational Theory, which is controversial in itself, describes a generation as a social location that has the potential to affect an individual’s consciousness in much the same way as social class or culture does. Driven by the imperatives of biology and social context, “individuals who belong to the same generation, who share the same year of birth, are endowed, to that extent, with a common location in the historical dimension of the social process”, and a generational consciousness is formed.
This involves the development of “collective mentalities that mirror a dominant view of the world, reflecting similar attitudes and values and providing a basis for shared action.” A U.S. generation or age cohort is a group of persons who travel through life together and experience similar events at a similar age; they share a common social, political, historical, and economic environment. Here is a list of such cohorts: the Greatest, Silent, Boomer, Builder, Gen. X, Millennials and Generation Z. Honestly, I am incapable to understand how experts develop generalizations of each category and their envisaged impact in practical living.
According to the Pew Research Center, generational analysis is a critical tool used to track and analyze the same groups of people on a range of issues, behaviors and characteristics (Pew Research Center 2015). This process may be informed by a range of factors including demographics, attitudes, historical events, popular culture, and prevailing consensus among researchers. Using this form of analysis and following specific generalized characteristics, American social demographers have arranged the last hundred (100) years in six periods of generations. These include the Greatest, the Silent, Baby Boomers, Generation X and the Millennial Generations. See the Table #1 which defines all the six Generations as reviewed by the Americans demographers.
Africa is not exempt from the trends of Generational theory. Although there are no distinct time boundaries to use to describe generations in Africa like the social demographers have done with America, the nomenclature has already entered Africa’s conversations. The Youths of Africa are now being referred to as millennials. However, to serve populations better, Africa’s social demographers must also come up with a way to conceptualize Generations on the continent using similarities that are common and unique to Africa. When this is categorized, different ways of helping people from different generations can be constructed.
Generations are the platforms through which change is passed over epochs of time. When You want a societal transformation to deepen and stay for a long time, Generations are the starting points. Great economies are built over many generations. Three historical examples:
- Israel as a Nation: was commanded by God commanded Israel to pass the values through generations. God is known as the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.
- Islamic Religion and Movement: The Islamic Faith is passed through natural procreation
Credit to Gaddafi: “Islam will win the world without shooting a rifle.” Each man is allowed to marry up to 4 wives and it is not illegal. - Liberal Philosophy & Practices
- They have a worldwide Visions
- Eugenics
- Sexual Revolutions
- Extreme Feminism
- LGBTQi
- Transgenderism: Gender social construct
Gender Affirming Action: Puberty Blockers: Chemicals to stop the gender associated with biological sex should not be a reality
To Change anything that has been impacting the society for generations you must also plan to impact it through intentional generational transfer
There is something called the Principle of “7th generation,” It is grounded in a philosophy of stewardship, which was (is) a backbone of the civilization and culture of Native Americans. It is premised on the notion that in every decision be it personal, governmental or corporate, leaders must consider how it will affect their descendents seven generations into the future. In this sense, seven generations may be between 140 to 175 years depending how long one deems a generation
Three Elements Impacting Generation
Thinking Generationally
- We must develop philosophy of Generations
- Generational thinking makes people responsible beings.
- Generational Thinking is Relay Race Thinking
- There are three important aspects to this generational thinking. These include new sets of attitudes, responsibilities and benefits.
- Thinking Generationally, you have responsibilities to receive from the previous one and pass on to the next generation life-giving legacy.
- Receiving from the previous generation demands that the contemporary generation should learn lessons of life from the out-going one.
- Every generation leaves a legacy. The question is, “what type of legacy will your generation leave for the next one?”
- Generational Thinking demands a that we have the right attitude over the future of children.
- Human beings tend to be selfless when they develop this mentality.
- Lessons of life, intangible and abstractlegacies are far more important than inheritance of wealth and property. The children of Israel were admonished to learn from their forefathers by looking at the way they had lived their lives (1 Corinthians 10:1-6).
- Every generation is also called to minister to itself. God desires to lift and give significant dreams to people so that they may in turn impact their own generation. The Bible testifies to this end that David had already fulfilled God’s purpose for his generation by the time he was buried (Acts 13:36). One interesting thing to note is that no one can minister to his generation unless he knows his God-given dreams.
- Every generation is also called to pass on a legacy to the next generation. Asaph wrote in Psalm 78:4-6 that every generation has to pass on the knowledge of God’s works and strength to the next generation. Generational thinking in this regard makes everyone responsible for their lives and the lives of their children.
- Generational thinking is an important quality for achievers. It has some definite remarkable benefits both for the current and future generations. Generational thinking helps one to think in whole terms, in terms of the total picture; for the whole is bigger than the sum of its parts. This makes people vision-minded. They learn to do things with the future in mind.
- Generational thinking gives the next of kin an inheritance capable of making them better than their parents. The legacy every generation leaves should be a blessing and not a curse to the next generation.
- Lack of generational thinking hampersdevelopment in any society. This has been the curse of many people and organisations on the continent of Africa
- A Generational mindset allows people to influence others even when they are long gone. It makes people speak even from their graves. A very good example is that of Martin Luther King Jr, the American preacher and human rights activist who still speaks from the grave volumes of lessons from his grave.
- Generational thinking helps in many ways during the passing on of the leadership mantle in a family, club, company, organization, or government. It demands that the outgoing and the succeeding parties respect each other as they perform the sacred work of changing authority.
- The outgoing generation should always remember to give a legacy that will be a blessing to the incoming one. People of the outgoing generation should desire the success of the succeeding ones who carries the leadership mantle from there on. In various times, the success of the leader may show implicitly that the predecessor had helped in preparing the successor to that office.
Wrong Thinking of Africa
- A subsistence lifestyle is usually based on one rain season.
- Always living only for today is ignores the pain of tomorrow.
- A mindset that insists on individual wins does not develop generations
- We tend to think, we can’t dream when we have no sufficient food.
- Africa’s misconception over children. Children are regarded as part of the family wealth.
- Children are not wealth, but beneficiaries of wealth from their parents. It is to this end that Solomon wrote that; “A good man leaves an inheritance to his children’s children” (Proverbs 13:22).
- Two Evils: First, it encourages unrestrained bearing of children. Second, it forces some parents to keep on having children even when they are very old and yet can’t care for them properly.
- The consequences of these two evils are varied and harmful, Children suffer.
Act Generationally
- Prepare the Seeds for Generational Development and Impact
- Generational Impactors are always planting at the grassroots. They have a long-term goal
- Generational Transfer is based on convictions on what You would desire the next generations to pick from You
- Do all You Can to Transfer the essential God-kind of Values to the next Generation
This is the generation of those who seek Him, Who seek Your face—even Jacob. Selah.
Pray Generationally
- Their Faith in the seeds (values) gives confidence of the future
- Impacting Generations is a walk of faith.
- my impact in the future is minimal but God will be there.
Prayer Points
- Pray that the Next Generations Develop a Deeper Hunger for the Word of God
- Pray that the Next Generation will be on fire to Share the Gospel of Salvation through Faith in Jesus Christ
- Pray for the Next Generation to adopt a Biblical Worldview as opposed to a Secular and Cultural Worldview
- Pray that the next Generation who they are in the Eyes of Their Loving Creator and Savior
- Pray that the Next Generation Believers Will Love the Church as Jesus Does
These include Psalm 145:4, “One generation shall commend your works to another, and shall declare your mighty acts,” and Psalm 78 where the importance of testifying about God's works to the next generation so they would remain in the faith and not turn away is emphasized
Psalm 78.4: We will not hide them from their children, telling to the generation to come the praises of the Lord, And His strength and His wonderful works that He has done.
