Isaiah 60:1–2 Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord has risen upon you. For behold, darkness shall cover the earth, and thick darkness the peoples; but the Lord will arise upon you, and his glory will be seen upon you.

Psalm 72:1–4 Give the king your justice, O God, and your righteousness to the royal son! May he judge your people with righteousness, and your poor with justice! Let the mountains bear prosperity for the people, and the hills, in righteousness! May he defend the cause of the poor of the people, give deliverance to the children of the needy, and crush the oppressor!

Kenya has one of Africa’s largest evangelical populations, and Christianity has deeply influenced the country through historic revival movements, Pentecostal growth, Christian institutions and missionary activity. However, there is a serious gap between widespread Christian identification and visible national transformation. Corruption, poverty, ethnic and political divisions, nominal Christianity, weak discipleship and shortages of well-trained church leaders remain significant concerns. Kenya also has several least-reached communities, including pastoral peoples in the north and west, Muslim peoples in the northeast and along the coast, Somali communities and Asian religious communities. Nairobi remains an important centre for Christian ministry, theological training and missions across Africa. 

1. Pray for repentance, revival and genuine discipleship throughout the Kenyan Church. Ask God to awaken believers from nominal Christianity, cleanse the Church of division, materialism and unhealthy political influence, and raise Christians whose transformed lives demonstrate holiness, integrity, justice and love. Pray for unity among churches in opposing wrongdoing and promoting values and policies that honour God. 

2. Pray for righteous leadership, peace and national transformation. Ask God to raise honest, capable and accountable leaders in government, churches, business and public institutions. Pray against corruption, tribalism, ethnic discrimination, human-rights abuses, criminal networks and the misuse of national resources. Pray for policies that protect the vulnerable, uplift the poor and provide lasting solutions to land pressure, unemployment, urban poverty and conflict over limited resources. 

3. Pray for Kenya’s least-reached peoples to receive the gospel. Pray for the Turkana, Pokot, Sabaot, Rendille, Samburu, Daasenach, Borana, Somali, coastal Swahili and Arab communities, the Mijikenda peoples and Kenya’s Asian religious communities. Ask the Lord of the harvest to send faithful workers who will share Christ with wisdom, courage, cultural sensitivity and love, and establish strong, locally led and biblically grounded churches. 

4. Pray for children, young people, vulnerable communities and Kenya’s missionary calling. Pray that young Kenyans will encounter Christ, receive sound discipleship and be protected from crime, exploitation, addiction, hopelessness and destructive ideologies. Ask God to strengthen ministry among street-connected children, orphans, slum communities and families facing poverty and illness. Pray also for more trained, holy and accountable pastors, teachers and missionaries, and for Nairobi to continue serving as a strategic centre for gospel work throughout Africa and beyond.
