As far as the eyes can see: The mindset of a Goal Getter

Recurrent Thought

The success of personal goals depends on ones' mindset. Getting the right Godly wisdom about life guarantees success in the pursuit of goals.

Genesis 13 v14-15; Ecclesiastes 9: 11; Mathews 25 v 14-29

Introduction

Different terms are thrown around when it comes to talking about the dreams about the future: vision and goals. The difference between these two is not always easy to draw.

Vision generally refers to the mental image of how you want to see yourself in the future. The end picture. It speaks to what will be ultimately achieved and the impact.

Goals are milestones that must be attained to fulfil the vision. Goals unpack the vision!

Set goals that are (a) worthy fighting for (a) cause dramatic change in your life (c) are strong enough to carry you through difficult times. (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant and Time-bound)!

The goal is not the goal:

The focus in setting and executing goal is not the goal:

The Purpose. The why behind the goal. The mission. It gives meaning and value to the goal.

The Process. Joy and happiness is in the process not the destination! It is about the Travelling not the Travel!  purpose is fulfilled in the process!

Growth. The pursuit of a goal must bring about growth in your knowledge and understanding. The improvement in your personality! The movement from one level of glory to another!

Any vision or goal that lacks these things will lead to frustration and depression:

Mindset

Setting up and implementing the right vision and goals is a function of mindset- a set of attitude or  philosophy of life.

Its an aspect of self-discipline

Four Critical Mindset Areas:

  1. Don’t Wait For Certainty Ecclesiastes 9v11
    • A voice of doubt attends every decision to set out or pursue a goal, those that want certainty never amount to anything. Proverbs 26:13
    • The quest for certainty has led many to false prophets!
    • While we should do everything to project tomorrow we must accept that we can never know everything about tomorrow. 1st Corinthians 13 v 9! Matthew 6:34
    • Be content with what God has said in his word, you don’t need a prophesy or sign! 2nd Peter 1:3 the bible declares his divine power has given us all we need for life and godliness!
    • The reality is some things can’t be known/defined at the beginning of the journey!
    • Those that succeeded in life, never looked like the strongest/swiftest/wisest/favored at the beginning of the journey!
    • You have time & chance use it!
    • Why time & chance?
  2. Nothing Beats Action:
    • Time and Chance speaks about opportunity to act!
    • Jesus says work when it is day!  John 9:4
    • Action tramples over intention! Matthew 21: 28-32
    • There is no miracle/Prayer/Divine intervention that will permanently replace action.
    • Even the greatest miracles demands action to be sustained! Exodus 17
    • In fact there is action at the end of every miracle.
    • The greatest of miracles will land you at the place of action!
    • At the end of any miracle is a call to action!
    • At the end of every divine intervention is a call to action!
    • Every Godly intervention is meant to fuel action!
    • No purpose of God is fulfilled without a man to act – Genesis 2:5
    • If it does not set your heart on fire to act, it may not be from God!
    • Learn to act even when you don’t feel like. While motivation may give rise to action, action gives motivation and more action.
    • Life is about not knowing what to do but doing something any way! Don’t stop, act when you know, act when you don’t know!
    • There is no success that takes away the need for action…the reward for success is more platform for action.
    • What changes is the impact of the action, the higher you go the bigger the impact of the action!
  3. The Starting Point Doesn’t Determine The End Mathews 25 V 14-29
    • Don’t be obsessed with what you start with and where you start from. No need to complain, it says nothing about where you are going!
    • Whatever is given to us grows when acted upon! It does not follow 1+1. The miracle of compound effect!
    • There is no limit to what or where you finish, regardless of what you start with or where you start from!
    • You are not late, it is not small !
  4. Don’t Make Conclusions About God Or Your Fate Based On Circumstances- Mathews 25 v 14-29
    • People that make conclusions about God or their future based on the circumstances don’t amount to anything!
    • What happens to you says nothing about God and his promises!
    • God’s character and position is settled by his word, not events!
    • Using events to determine the character of God and his position is superstition!
    • God is not God because of what he does, that is Sunday school theology! God is God because he is God!
