Making Disciples
Matthew 28:19-20
"Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I will be with you always, to the very end of the age,"
2Tim 2:2
And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable people who will also be qualified to teach others.
Recurrent Thought
Christ followers must embrace mentorship to become effective disciple makers
Introduction
Making of disciples is rooted in Jesus' Great Commission (Matthew 28:19-20), The command to Go and make disciples is coming from Jesus Christ himself.
It is a relational process of guiding people to follow Christ through going, baptizing, and teaching them obedience, moving beyond simple conversion to deep transformation.
It involves learning by watching, doing, and teaching, forming a chain where mature disciples mentor new ones in the rhythms of faith, prayer, scripture, and sharing the Gospel in everyday life.
They are watching you marking all you do , hearing the things you say, let them see the saviour as he shines in you let his power control you everyday Living Song,#82
We inspire people by what we say or by our character or by what we do
In this message we would to share four principles that can help us become effective disciple makers
Core Principles
- Relational & Intentional: It's about mentoring, not just programming, involving life-on-life connection and accountability, mirroring Jesus' approach with His few chosen disciples. Home cells are supposed to be Dscipleship centres. Yes, home cells are supposed to be centres of excellence as far as discipleship is concerned
- Beyond Conversion: We should shift our focus from just getting converts to nurturing followers who live out Christ's commands daily.
Galatians 4.19 .
My dear children, for whom I am again in the pains of childbirth until Christ is formed in you
We need to engage in a process of spiritual maturity and conformation to Gods image that takes a lifetime
Seeing lives changed from one degree of glory to another is process not to be bypassed.
- Go & Teach: The process starts with "going" (evangelism) and culminates in "teaching" them to obey everything Jesus commanded, creating a multiplying effect (2 Timothy 2:2). Be prepared to be involved in coaching and mentoring this year
- Be a Disciple First: You must be actively following Jesus (learning to walk daily with Him) to effectively make disciples. Like begets like , the likelihood of me producing disciples of my calibre is very high
Key Actions in Disciple-Making
- Sharing the Gospel: Persuading people to become followers of Jesus.
- Baptism: Initiating them into the faith.
- Teaching Obedience: Instructing in scripture, prayer, and how to live for God's Kingdom.
- Modeling & Mentoring: Living life together, demonstrating faith, and opening your life to others.
The Goal
- To create a continuous chain (generations) of disciple-makers who grow in maturity and lead others.
- To see individuals empowered to live for the Kingdom and make Jesus known in their specific contexts.
Conclusion
- Lets us make disciple making a lifelong commitment
- Let us make disciple making our lifestyle
- Let us develop a disciple making culture
Prayer
Lord make me an effective disciple maker as I open my life for others
