Freed to be Free

The Power of the Blood

It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and donot let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.Galatians 5:1, NIV

Hebrews 9:11–14; 10:19–22

Recurrent Truth

The blood of Jesus Christ is powerful because it provides eternal redemption, purifies the conscience, and opens access to God. It works, even today/

When one believes in Christ, they become children of God (John 1:12). In Christ they are complete. The challenge is that most believers only experience this change for a short time, and most times they slide into a life of slavery to another form of bondage. Many believers though freed have kept themselves in another form of slavery. The reality is that when one believes in Christ, they are babes and must grow into mature believers. This is discipleship. Part of the Christ-like formation that happens in the life of a Christ-devoted follower is understanding the present day power of the Blood of Jesus in their life.

Believers must understand and appropriate the incomparable power of the blood of Jesus Christ in their lives. In dying, Jesus through His blood provided redemption to every wayward child of God. However, the same blood has the power to keep one’s conscience pure, daily. We must understand the depth, sufficiency, and transforming power of Christ's blood in the redemption and sanctification of man.

The Book of Hebrews reveals the superiority of Christ and His finished work. Chapter 9 focuses on the eternal value of Christ’s blood. The Old Testament rituals offered a temporal covering, however, the blood of Jesus offers a complete cleansing, transforming hearts and granting eternal redemption.

We deal with three transforming truths about the Blood of Jesus

  1. The Blood of Jesus Provides Eternal Redemption (Heb. 9:11-12)
    • Heb. 9:12 he entered once for all into the holy places, not by means of the blood of goats and calves but by means of his own blood, thus securing an eternal redemption. (ESV)
    • The Blood of Jesus shows that this was a Complete Work: Jesus entered the Holy of holies once and for all. Christ entered once—not repeatedly—and obtained eternal redemption. Jesus paid it once, and it was enough forever! Therefore, we must stop trying to earn what Jesus has already paid.
    • The Blood of Jesus implies that this was a Costly Work. It was not the blood of bulls and goats, but His own sinless, divine blood. It was by his own blood”
    • The difference between covering a stain with a cloth and removing it with a solvent.
    • Don’t undervalue it. Understand the value of your salvation—it cost Jesus everything.
    • The blood of Jesus didn’t cost silver—it cost the Savior.
    • The Blood of Jesus established a Conquering Work. The text states that “Having obtained eternal redemption/” The verb implies triumph—Jesus conquered sin, death, and hell.
    • You are no longer a slave to your past. You’ve been redeemed.
    • Let it be seared in your mind: Redemption is not just rescue—it’s a royal purchase.
  2. The Blood of Jesus Purifies Our Conscience (Heb. 9:13-14)
    • “How much more shall the blood of Christ… purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?”
    • The Blood of Jesus cleanses the Inner Man. The Word says the blood “purges Your conscience.” The blood reaches not just the outward man but the inner heart, the conscience.
    • Christ’s blood doesn’t just cover your guilt—it removes it. Glory to God! The blood doesn’t just hide sin—it heals the soul.
    • The Blood of Jesus Cancels Dead Works. This means that the blood cancels any effort wanting to please God apart from His Grace. The blood frees us from spiritual legalism.
    • We don’t belong to a treadmill of religion: where we keep running, sweating, but going nowhere. Please, stop performing for God and start walking with God.
    • Through the blood stop working to be accepted—start serving because you’re accepted.
    • The Blood of Jesus powerfully Commissions us for His Service. Note that it allows us to “serve the living God” just as the text has stated
    • Notice clearly that: Cleansing leads to calling. Once forgiven, we become fruitful.
    • Through the blood, you were not just saved from something—you were saved for something.
  3. The Blood of Jesus Opens Access to God (Heb. 10:19–22 )
    • “Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus” (Heb. 10:19)
    • Through the blood we can approach God boldly. We have “Boldness to enter”
    • Before Christ, it was only the high priest who entered, even then, timidly.
    • I encourage you never hesitate to go to God in prayer—His throne is open to you.
    • Remember the veil is torn—walk in boldly!
    • The blood of Jesus does not only grant us but guarantees intimacy with God. We enter into the holy of holies, right in the Presence of God
    • We don’t have to settle for religion when Jesus offers relationship. You don’t need a priest—you have the Prince of Peace.
    • The blood guards Us with assurance. Notice that the text states that “Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith” (v.22). The blood not only invites but secures our standing before God.
    • Learn to rest in the confidence of your position in Christ.. You are not an intruder—you are a son.

Major Truth

Jesus, the spotless Lamb of God, shed His blood on the cross not just for forgiveness, but for transformation. His blood satisfies God’s justice and justifies the sinner who believes (Romans 5:9). This is not about religion—it’s about redemption and transformation

Conclusion

The blood of Jesus is not a theological idea; it is not a ritual—it is the central truth of our salvation. This blood redeems us completely, cleanses us internally and brings us near eternally.

Altar for Salvation

During the plague in Egypt, only those under the blood were spared. Today, only those who are under Christ’s blood will be saved. Are you under the blood?
